At Bridger Historical Society, one of our main goals is to save the histories of our earliest settlers, and collect these stories in a book about Bridger and Bowler. We want to preserve for posterity the unique history of the authentic west of which Bridger was a major part. Our tough, fascinating homesteaders were joined often by famous characters like Buffalo Bill, Calamity Jane, Jeremiah Johnson, and Chief Plenty Coups.
Bridger Historical Society is actively involved in saving some of our historic sites most in danger of decay or destruction. We have joined with the Town of Bridger to save the Stage Coach station, with Pacificorp to save the 1st Bowler School, and are yearly applying for grants to save roofs, footings, and other buildings. Construction is the area we most need volunteer help and donations.
Over the years, we have visited a number of sites including historic buildings and places, indigenous sites, cemeteries and museums. Some examples were the cemeteries of Gebo and Mountain View, Chief Plenty Coups' home and museum, and Weatherman Draw.

Anyone interested in history is welcome to join in! Fieldtrips are posted on our FB page, Bridger, Montana Historical Society. BHS is developing an historic walking tour of Bridger that will be up and running by 2024.
There are so many ways to support our mission. Contact us to find out more about volunteer opportunities to save buildings, donations, fieldtrips, storytelling, and ways to save the history of our authentically western town!
