Friends of Chief Plenty Coups and Buffalo Bill, soldier of General Custer... these settlers had strong western roots, sturdy personalities and humor to go with it all.
Eligible for the National Registry, this two-story house was the first frame-built, clapboard building near the town of Bridger, MT by some of the earliest settlers of the town. The wood freighted in to build the town was stored at this site. The family knew Calamity Jane who ate at their cafe and helped herself once to food in the cellar.
It is a priority project with much preliminary work to be completed.
This more permanent town hall replaced the earliest log town hall of Bridger. It was a grand design collaboration between the Bridger Commercial Club, private citizens, the WPA and the Town of Bridger in the late 1940s. Ornamented with massive chunks of petrified wood from nearby areas, the building also boasted a large fireplace inside.
